Commercial Weather Services

While it cannot change the weather, the Commercial Weather Services section (CWS) can provide detailed forecast information to minimise its impact on industry operations, and so increase efficiency, competitiveness and return on investment.

The CWS provides specifically tailored forecast services to support operations and strategic planning in weather-sensitive industries such as mining (both onshore and offshore), energy production, construction, tourism, agriculture, and shipping.

CWS uses the Bureau of Meteorology's best numerical weather prediction models and observational data, with experienced staff adept at extracting the right information from the wide array of available data.

CWS offers a range of products to aid in project design and management, and contingency planning. Some of them include:

Real-Time Forecasting
Using state-of-art computer modelling to forecast the weather elements such as wind, waves, temperature, rainfall etc., a wide range of products are tailored to specific clients and provided in graphical format on daily basis.

Severe Weather Forecasting
Providing detailed information on severe weather phenomena, such as tropical cyclones, thunderstorm squalls and their projected impact on operations.
